Pacrim conference opens registration

The large Pacrim 2019 Conference in Auckland in April has opened for registrations.

The event, to be held at the Cordis Hotel from April 3-5, will take in 80 technical papers and there will be six pre-conference tours and a total of eight short courses.

While the tours and programmes include Australia, Papua New Guinea and other countries, New Zealand will feature strongly.

A session covering NZ gold, tungsten and industrial minerals will include a presentation by Paul Angus for MOD Resources on the Sams Creek porphyry gold deposit; and another by Dr Doug Mackenzie of Otago University on the potential scheelite as a by-product for the Macraes gold mine.

Veteran GNS Science scientist Rob Brathwaite will present on epithermal zeolite in the Central Taupo Volcanic Zone, while Chatham Rock Phosphate’s chief executive Chris Castle will talk about the company’s proposal to mine seabed phosphate on Chatham Rise.

Another concurrent session covering epithermal and orogenic gold in New Zealand will see Rick Streiff of OceanaGold Corporation talk about the big WKP discovery near Waihi, while colleague Hamish Blakemore will talk about the Hyde-Macraes Shear Zone that influenced the Macraes gold discoveries.
