A South Island coal project will feature in the November talk for the AusIMM Christchurch Discussion Group.
Bathurst Resources’ executive Hamish McLauchlan will give a talk on the Albury coal project where an opencast mine may be developed.
Albury is about 40 kilometres north-east of Timaru and 9 km south of Fairlie in Canterbury.
The AusIMM said existing geological data, historical information and surface outcrop suggest that the area – incorporating Albury and Woodlark underground workings – could contain economic coal for open pitting.
The Christchurch Discussion Group meeting will be held on the evening of November 1 at the Regent Meeting Room on level 1 at 214 Durham Street, Christchurch Central.
