The rains came during April and into early May for Meridian Energy Ltd (NZX: MEL; ASX: MEZ), lifting from 113% to 121% by May 11.
The company’s April report said South Island storage sat at 121% of average while North Island storage reached 123%.
National electricity demand in April was 2.3% higher than the same month last year, with Good Friday public holiday falling in March this year and April last year.
April also saw near-average temperatures punctuated by a mid-month cold snap. Most parts of the country recorded above average rainfall for the month.
Meridian’s retail sales volumes in April decreased by 0.6% compared to April 2017.
On its market data, Meridian said its major customer (and NZ’s), New Zealand Aluminium Smelter’s average load for its Tiwai Point smelter for April was at the 572 MW base quantity of the NZAS agreement.
