A contract worth about $A660 million ($NZ697.6 M) for a deep underground mine in South Australia has been awarded to Downer EDI Ltd (ASX & NZX: DOW).
The company said yesterday the contract was to provide underground mining services over 6.5 years for the Carrapateena copper-gold mine in the State’s far north.
The mine is owned by OZ Minerals Ltd (ASX: OZL) and is in the same region that has produced BHP’s Olympic Dam copper-uranium-gold mine and the Prominent Hill copper-gold mine, owned by OZ Minerals.
The mining contract, taking in engineering and construction work is with its joint venture partner Ausenco.
The mine is about 160 kilometres north of Port Augusta which sits at the top of Spencers Gulf.
