Strong quake hits Hawks Bay region
There was a strong earthquake recorded yesterday in the central Hawkes Bay region of the North Island.
GeoNet said the magnitude 5.2 quake had its epicentre 20 kilometres west of Waipukurau at 8.43 pm yesterday.
GeoNet said the quake had a depth of 22 km and was originally recorded as having a magnitude of 4.4 before being upgraded to 5.2.
GeoNet received “felt” reports on the quake from towns throughout the North Island.
