The prestigious annual Lloyd Jones Award for the New Zealand branch of the AusIMM this year went to well-known geologist Richard Barker.
The award commemorates the decades of work undertaken by Lloyd Jones as a branch executive and also through his contributions to the mining industry, including safety management.
Richard Barker was presented with his award at the conference dinner on Wednesday night which concluded the conference in Christchurch.
Over the years Barker not only contributed to discovery work, including gold deposits in the Hauraki Goldfield, but also in helping Tony Haworth to produce summaries on the industry for the annual branch conference, and also in writing reports on New Zealand for Mining Journal and other publications.
This year’s Media Award went to the editor of NZResources Ross Louthean.
